Information on the Roman Catholic Religious Awards
The Bucks County Catholic Committee on Scouting would like to remind all Catholic Scouts that now is the time to work on their respective Religious Emblems. The materials needed are available from the Bucks County Council's Service Center. Ideally, all of the requirements will be completed by December and arrangements can then be made for Scouts and parents to attend the Philadelphia Archdiocese Scout Mass in February at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul where they will receive their awards. Unit awards and adult recognition are also conveyed during this annual Mass. Cub Scouts receiving the Light of Christ will receive their awards at the Scout Sunday Mass celebrated at their Parish.
- Light of Christ award is for 6-7 year old Cub Scouts
- Parvuli Dei award is for 8-9 year old Cub Scouts
- Ad Altari Dei award is for any youth in a Troop or Crew. They must have completed the 6th grade.
- Pope Pius XII is for Venturing Crew members and Boy Scouts that are 15 years of age or older. They must have completed the 8th grade.
Further information concerning the program content is available from the National Catholic Committee on Scouting website at: http://nccs-bsa.org
Locally, please contact Bucks County Catholic Committee on Scouting members Dave White (Boy Scout or Venturing Programs) at email@example.com, or Susanne Brooks if you are in a Cub Scout program at firstname.lastname@example.org. The BSA Youth Protection Training and VIRTUS is required for all adult counselors/facilitatiors of AAD and PPXII. Please notify us prior to starting a program at your parish/unit.

Please plan to attend our meetings, as we would like your feedback on programs that you would like to see from the BCCCS/APCCS to assist in your efforts to expand the Catholic Scouting programs in your units. Particularly, it would be helpful to hear how we might be able to encourage more units to start religious emblems programs as well as earn their Catholic unit awards (Cardinal Krol and Pope Paul VI). Please bring your ideas to any of our meetings or plan to just come and meet other religious emblems counselors from your area.
Many thanks and blessings,
