Good Citizen Award

The Washington Crossing Council is proud to be partner with the Union League/Founding Forward on the Good Citizen program.  Each year, several Scouts from WCC are selected to participate in the exciting program!

Good Citizen Day

For over 75 years, the Union League of Philadelphia's Good Citizen Day has recognized, educated, and motivated high school students who demonstrate the qualities of a responsible American citizen.

During an all-day civics program at The Union League of Philadelphia, 11th-grade students gain an in-depth understanding of the Constitution and its vital role in a setting deeply linked to one of our country’s defining periods: Abraham Lincoln’s presidency and the war to end slavery and preserve the Union.

This fast-paced, immersive program encourages students to engage in civil discourse while realizing their rights and responsibilities as United States citizens. The League’s Good Citizenship Award is presented upon successful completion of Good Citizen Day.

Nomination Process

Adult volunteers are invited to nominate outstanding Scouts for the Union League of Philadelphia Good Citizen Award!  Nominees must be juniors in high school, and demonstrate hard work and fair play, have personal attributes of honesty, courage, tolerance, curiosity, and loyalty, and endeavor to follow and uphold the principles of American patriotism.

Nominators should be aware that the nomination process does require some backgound information about the Scout as well as some short descriptions about how the Scout has shown leadership, hard work, and fairness.  This will require some time to prepare.  Nominators will need to talk with the Scout and his/her parents as there is form they have to complete as well.  Please stress that a nomination does not mean the Scout will be selected.  The council is only able to select a limited number of Scout awardees.  Selected Scouts will be notified by the council in late-January or early-February.

Nominations are submitted online at the link below.  The last day that nominations will be accepted is December 30, 2024.

Scout nominees and parents will need to complete the "student information form" and return it to their nominator.  The nominator must upload it with the nomination.  Please not submit these separately.  Also at the time of nomination, the nominator may upload up to two additional leaders of recommendation.
